Marco polo airport: an essential guide

Overlooking the lagoon, the Marco Polo airport in Tessera is the main airport in Venice and the third largest in Italy.  If you are visiting Venice you may land here ready to create their own Venice experience. The Venice Marco Polo airport is about 13 km from Piazzale Roma. Modern in design, it has excellent facilities, providing everything you will need for your onward journey. On the three floors of the building you will find a variety of shops, including pharmacies. Tourist information, currency exchange and ATMs are all here, as well as plenty of restaurants, bars and cafes. The arrivals hall is on the first floor, while the departure area is on the first.

Getting to Venice from Marco Polo airport – venice airport map

You can get to Venice from the airport by road or by water. You can choose between a private taxi transfer or public transport.

There is a dock at the airport for water taxis, These are expensive and fares start from € 120 for a 30 minute journey. The Alilaguna water buses cost € 15 including baggage, but take at least 90 minutes.

Taxis are available at the entrance to the airport. Fares are from € 40 to € 20. The cheaper option is to take public transport. Take the ACTV local bus line 5 (price € 8 – minimum 30 minutes) or the ATVO Express bus (€ 8 – 20 minutes no stops)

All buses and taxis stop in Piazzale Roma. From Piazzale Roma continue your journey by taking either a vaporetto (water taxi) or a private taxi to reach your hotel. Most Venetians prefer this route as it is the fastest way to get home!

  • ATVO run an express bus to Mestre
  • The ACTV bus,no 15 or 45 also go to the centre of Mestre.

How to get to Marco Polo Airport from Venice

Ideas and suggestions for your return journey to Venice Airport.

  • Take a shuttle bus to the airport or a water taxi.
  • From Piazzale Roma take a bus on the ACTV line 5 (€ 8 – minimum 30 minutes) or the ATVO express bus (€ 8 – 20 minutes, with no stops);
  • Take the Alilaguna water bus (€ 15 – minimum 1 hour).
  • From Mestre, remember there is an express ATVO bus from the railway station and from Corso del Popolo in the city centre. The ACTV lines are 15 and 45.
  • A new recommendation is to take a private motorboat from the centre of Venice or a private taxi from Mestre!

Can I get to Lido di Jesolo from Marco Polo Airport?

There is a direct bus to Lido di Jesolo from the airport.  The line 10 ATVO bus stops just in front of the main airport entrance area. The bus to Lido di Jesolo stops only on request and the journey lasts between 35 to 40 minutes The fare is € 6.70 which includes baggage and an urban line ticket to reach your hotel.

Marco Polo Park is the Venice Marco Polo airport car park (link PF Venice airport parking). Parking spaces are divided into seven different areas whose prices range from € 16 to € 30 per day. The advantage of parking here is that it is so close to the terminal. By reserving your parking space in advance, you may also benefit from early bird discounts. You can save a little more by choosing one of the car parks outside the airport area. Most of them offer a free shuttle service to / from the airport entrance. Car rental Venice Airport

Car rental companies (link PF Venice airport car hire) are found on the third level (terrace) of the Park 1 multi-storey car park. To rent a vehicle you must pick it up and set it off here. You can also hire a rental car from just outside the airport. Prices are lower and the shuttle to and from the terminal is free.

Venice airport hotels?

Between Via Orlanda and Via Triestina you will find lots of accommodation. Hotels here are cheaper so it could be an option for you if your flight lands late in the evening or leaves early in the morning.
